Prioritising Mental Health

World Mental Health Day is a day for us to shine a light on the work we do all year round, highlighting the significance of mental health, especially within the construction industry.

At Ecogee we know health is more than a physical state, it’s important to address the importance of mental health in our teams.

In 2022/23 stress, anxiety and depression accounted for 49 per cent of work-related ill-health, resulting in 17.1 million working days lost (HSE).

Our team are committed to ensuring that all employees and their families have access to necessary support, free from judgment or fear of job loss.

In a fast-paced sector, mental health is a vital aspect of our teams wellbeing. We encourage employees to speak openly and empower training opportunities for colleagues who may wish to give extra support during those times of need.

Like a traditional first aiders who would provide immediate assistance for physical injuries, a Mental Health First Aider provides initial support, encouragement, and signposting of a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other support.

We now have three fully trained Mental Health First Aiders at Ecogee. We asked our Business Development Support Officer, Sophie Duffy what made her decide to complete her course in April 2024:

“I wanted to become a Mental Health First Aider as I think I’m the type of person naturally people knew they could confide in. In the workplace and personally. I wanted the qualification to make sure I was giving people the correct support and guidance that they needed in those moments.”
